PSA for CASA: One Boy’s Story

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is a nationwide, volunteer-driven nonprofit that represents the best interests of abused and neglected children in the court system. Recently, SHOOT Magazine recognized a public service announcement produced on behalf of CASA as: “Some of the best work you’ll never see.” Some of the best work? Check. That you’ll never see?….Not if we have anything to do with it.

The backstory: CASA of Cook County was one of EPIC’s earliest probono clients. Rick Valicenti of Chicago design collaborative Thirst served as the creative director for EPIC’s volunteer team of creative professionals, which completed an eight-week “creative rally” on behalf of CASA of Cook County.

After the EPIC rally, Thirst continued working on behalf of CASA with production company Mode Project. Together, they brought to life a script written by EPIC volunteer and writer Kelly Butler.

The spot uses animation and live-action to tell the story of a boy whose life is changed by a CASA volunteer.
